I, of course, have no idea whether this is true or not. I remember reading it before, but it’s likely because Randy published it on the much-missed Randy’s Random mailing list.

It’s a good example of how psychology, a field which boasts some VERY smart people, can go horribly awry. Even if it’s not true, I’ve spend enough time around psychologists (both good and bad) to believe that it’s happened to someone, somewhere.
