On Moral Clarity…
What’s this? A new post?! I know. I’m as shocked as you.
I’m currently reading (among other things) Tammy Bruce’s book The Death of Right and Wrong. I’m a bit behind the times, I guess, as it was written last year, but I came across a passage that really struck home:
“…[N]ow, according to William Safire, ‘the ringing phrase moral clarity has a clearly conservative political coloration’ and is snubbed by many liberals as some freakish concern of the dreaded Right. I submit that moral clarity does not belong to just one side or the other of the political spectrum. The fact that it seems to reside on only one side tells us something: It has been abandoned by the other.”
(Incidentally, the quote by William Safire is attributed as being from an an article he wrote for the New York Times on May 12, 2002, titled, appropriately, “Moral Clarity”.)
Tammy Bruce is, apparently, a columnist for NewsMax.com and FrontPageMagazine.com. The purchase of this book was the first I’ve ever heard of her, but I like her style so far, and she’s making several good points. I also picked up a book by Larry Elder, The Ten Things You Can’t Say in America. The plan is to start reading more (books, news articles, etc.) and become more knowledgeable about the world at large, so as to be better equipped to comment on what’s going on in the world today.
But first, I just purchased Doom 3, and I have it on good authority that I need to play this game.
