On being a chickenhawk…

Questions and Observations is one of those blogs that I don’t read daily, but that I do visit very often.

I’ve been hearing a resurgence of the accusation that anyone who supports the war but doesn’t enlist is a hypocrite. I like the response of Q and O’s Jon Henke:

Is that the deal? I wasn’t told. Alright, then. Let’s be consistent, though.

Presumably, anybody who employs the “chickenhawk”, or the “101st Fighting Keyboard” argument will be first in line to donate their paychecks and spare time to…

  • …provide medical aid to the uninsured, before demanding that the government tax the rest of us to do the same.
  • …subsidize those in poverty, before demanding the government tax the rest of us to do the same.

As I’ve said before, I love the fact that there are people who say they hate abortion, but feel it should stay legal because it’s wrong to push one person’s ethics on another person, and then turn around and tell me that I should support welfare because giving money to those who won’t work (rather than those who can’t) is “the right thing to do.”
