Not QUITE the Kiss of Death…
A thirteen-year-old girl was put into a three week coma after she was beaten for receiving a kiss on the cheek. (I know this isn’t the original story. Sorry.)
The girl, Nicole Townes, was beaten at a birthday party after the birthday girl’s (supposed) boyfriend kissed her on the cheek. Her 11-year-old sister was also attacked.
Two of the attackers pled guilty last year. A plea agreement for another girl fell through, and three other attackers pled guilty yesterday — including the 37-year-old mother of the birthday girl, who apparently told the girls’ attacker to “handle [their] business,” whatever the heck that means.
I understand, really, that the birthday girl was likely pretty upset. I could see her attacking her “boyfriend” or Nicole. While I’d like to think that a situation like this would be handled by those directly involved, I can see how her close friends might jump into that kind of a fight. I wouldn’t have approved in that case, but emotions run high in relationships, even if those involved in the relationships are barely into their teens.
Her mother, though, should have been mature enough to stop the fight. She should’ve known that relationships at the age of 12 probably don’t involve the “love of your life”. She should’ve known better.
Two of the attackers who pled guilty yesterday were 20 and 25 years old. Way too old to be acting like this, these women were participating in the beating of two girls who were very close to half their ages. They should’ve known better.
And on top of all that, I can’t help but thinking what the kisser must’ve felt, knowing that, because he kissed a girl on the cheek, she was in the hospital for three weeks.
