Ten Questions

Michele, in celebration of the 70th birthday of Bernard Pivot (I don’t know who he is, either), has presented ten questions she’d like answered.

Because I love Michele’s blog (and not, even in the slightest, because I’m too busy playing World of Warcraft to write a real entry), I figured I’d answer the questions.

  1. What is your favorite word? Just for the way they sound, I like anarchical and eclectic. For meaning? Defenestrate and Liberty are fun words.
  2. What is your least favorite word? For both sound and meaning, fascism.
  3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally? Creatively? I’ve no idea. Spiritually or emotionally? Geekiness. Not by the traditional definition, but I just like it when someone is so enthusiastic about something that they’re willing to be just a little bit… well, geeky about it.
  4. What turns you off? I hate the herd mentality that people fall into. They become afraid to form their own opinions about things, and just go along with whatever is popular (or they think will make them popular). Typically, this is seen at its worse by those who claim to be “individuals” (as if everyone isn’t an individual).
  5. What is your favorite curse word? I rarely curse, and I’m not sure I have a favorite curse word. Sorry.
  6. What sound or noise do you love? I love the sound of keyboards. I also rather enjoy the sound of typewriters, but you rarely hear those anymore.
  7. What sound or noise do you hate? I can’t think of a particular sound, but I hate it when my hearing stops providing me with any useful information about what’s going on around me. As a result, I hate dead silence, almost as much as I hate loud music that drowns out everything else.
  8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Journalism. As much as I like to write, I don’t hold any illusions that I could ever make it with creative writing. I like presenting information, though, and the journalism profession could use a few more non-liberals, I think.
  9. What profession would you not like to do? Retail or any other sort of direct customer service. I had my fill of that working at K-mart in college.
  10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates? “Well done, my good and faithful servant”, or “I forgive you” would be enough to make me happy. However, if that was followed by, “Welcome to heaven. You’ll be happy to know that we have a full collection of the seven-season run of Firefly, from an alternate reality where the Fox Executives weren’t complete morons,” I wouldn’t complain.

    … Hey, I can dream, can’t I?
