Starship Troopers Fascist?

I’ve been in the process of re-reading Robert Heinlein’s Starship Troopers in order to reacquaint myself with the book’s society before refuting the very misguided notion that the society in the book is a fascist one.

Of course, I should’ve just used Google. Here is an excellent comparison between the book and Paul Verhoeven’s movie of the same name, including a section covering “Controversies, Misperceptions and Corrections”. That section by itself shows that Heinlein’s portrayed society is far from fascist, but the entire document is worth a read. (As is Heinlein’s book, for that matter.)
