Ashamed to be American?

I heard on the radio just before I left work that the American Red Cross has received over $500 million dollars in donations from around the country.

Let me rephrase that so that all of you whining about how ashamed to be American because of our reaction to Hurricane Katrina.

Unlike government expenditures, this is money given willingly, not under duress. Voluntarily, American citizens have given more than half a billion dollars to help their neighbors who fell victim to Hurricane Katrina. That is in addition to any actual supplies that they’ve donated, donations given to agencies besides the American Red Cross, and the time that people have donated.

I’m suddenly ashamed to be an American, too. Selfish bastards.
