Just a brief thought…

Stacey at 4Haks Top 10 Signs You are a Fundamentalist Christian posted over at Tin Foil Hat, and I didn’t see it until today (sorry, but I suck at keeping up with everyone’s blogs).

Reading his explanation of a multi-dimensional God using an example where we live in a three dimensional world, I remembered a book I loved as a kid, The Boy Who Reversed Himself. [Update: Link fixed. Thanks, Stacey.]

That book (as I recall) deals with physical multiple dimensions. At some point, trying to explain why we can’t truly comprehend objects that exist in 4-dimensional space, he uses an example of a 2-dimensional world that exists on the surface of a body of water. He describes how a diver would look to someone existing in that two-dimensional space, as a set of circular objects that expand, merge, then separate again, and why it would be difficult to look at that and really get an idea of what the diver looked like. I remember being fascinated by it at the time, and it’s no less fascinating now.
