This is Maddening.

From BBC News:

Deborah Jack, chief executive of the National AIDS Trust, said: “These findings are encouraging and it is clear the promotion of voluntary circumcision can play an important role in reducing the risk of HIV transmission, as part of a comprehensive prevention programme.

You know what else would play an important role in reducing the risk of HIV transmission? Voluntary celibacy outside of a lifelong monogamous relationship. And guess what? It doesn’t involve a procedure that will end up reducing the man’s enjoyment of sexual activities for the rest of his life.

I wonder if the BBC will also be running an article about how forcing women to have mastectomies will reduce their risk of breast cancer?

How to Induce Misanthropy

I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest today, and I came to a realization. If you really, really want someone to hate the human race, here’s what you do. First, you find someone who has respect for their fellow human beings, someone who understands the rules of, you know, shutting your yap during the movie and such. Then, take them to my local movie theater. By the time that the movie lets out, our respectful movie-goer will be ready to slaughter all of his fellow man, or, at least, those who can’t learn to shut their freaking mouths (which, if the theater today was any indication, is at least 97% of them).

My Faith in Humanity is Restored!

I haven’t learned this much since I had it explained to me that calling someone in another timezone is talking to the past, in the sense of time travel.)

One of the geniuses at the DU simply refuses to believe that a jet airliner, filled with fuel, could slam into a building and knock it down, so he set up an experiment to prove it (I took a statics class in college, and even I an convinced by this demonstration! Therefore, it must be realistic):

Quote of the Day

A lot of what Scott Adams writes on his Dilbert Blog seems to be written just to rile people up, but I came across the following a few days ago, and thought it would be the perfect quote for today:

The thing to remember about freedom is that it’s not given, it’s taken.
