Coulter Vs. Edwards
Yesterday, while spending some time relaxing at my mom’s house after our July 4th cookout, I picked up a copy of the Charleston Gazette, and read (even though I knew better) the Reader’s Voice. My particular favorite was a comment condemning Ann Coulter for wishing John Edward’s death on Good Morning America. Since some people apparently still believe that she said that, I think it’s important that everyone read Dafydd ab Hugh’s explanation of the controversy.
I’m not a huge fan of Coulter’s. I think she’s very intelligent, and that she’s one of the best conservative pundits out there at thinking on her feet and tearing apart liberal arguments. The downside to that is that she tends to make comments that are more than a bit offensive and over the top (probably because it gets publicity and, therefore, helps her earn more money selling books and such), which allows people to focus on those comments rather than forcing them to focus on her actual point.
However, that’s not the case here. She was clearly addressing the difference in how her comments about Edwards’ masculinity were received versus how Maher’s comments about an attack on Dick Cheney were.
