(Proverbs 31:10-12)
- A virtuous woman who can find? for her price is far above rubies.
- The heart of her husband trusteth in her, and he shall have no lack of gain.
- She doeth him good and not evil all the days of her life.
I’ve liked these verses for some time (and most of the chapter following, actually), because they remind me how lucky I am to have my wife.

Inspired by The Daily Audio Bible‘s Daily Audio Proverb, part of my regular bible reading has been to read a chapter of Proverbs a day. Proverbs, conveniently, has 31 chapters, and I’ve been reading the chapter that corresponds with the date. That means, obviously, that chapter 31 gets a little shorted.
I only started this earlier this month, so I haven’t actually hit a 30-day month yet. I haven’t decided if I’ll just not read chapter 31 as often, or if I’ll try to tack it onto the 30th’s reading in the future.
Anyway, as an offshoot of that, I’ve decided, starting tomorrow, to share at least one verse from my Proverbs reading. I can’t guarantee I’ll include my thoughts, but I will try.
Well, I’ve already written this much, so I should go ahead and start today, shouldn’t I?

The usual meme is that conservatives (on this topic, anyone who disapproves of the way our government fails to deal with illegal immigration can be considered “conservative”) are racists and nationalists who think less of people who aren’t from America. The problem with this meme, of course, is that most people who have an issue with illegal immigration, myself included, are thrilled to see articles like this one:
The 33-year-old was one of 79 people who gathered Monday at the Robert C. Byrd Federal Courthouse in Charleston to become naturalized citizens of the United States.
Perez was the only person from Belgium in attendance.
Others were from Ethiopia, Mexico, Iran, the Philippines, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Syria, Lebanon, Pakistan, Republic of China, Romania, Bulgaria, Egypt, Russia, India, Taiwan, Jamaica, Peru, Kenya, Greece, Canada, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Venezuela, Germany, Dominican Republic, Australia, Ireland, the Bahamas and Morocco.
This is a great story, but I have to wonder: are these ceremonies rarer than I thought, or was it just a really slow news day?

If you haven’t seen Mystery, Alaska, you may want to stop reading this post now, because I’m going to give away the ending.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, my wife and I are fans of Mike Birbiglia. Our shared sense of humor does not, sadly, extend to Yoram Bauman, the world’s self-proclaimed first (and only?) Stand Up Economist. He’s considerably more leftist than I am, I think, but Bauman’s bit on the translated principles of economics makes me laugh every time I think about it.
Bauman has a book coming out early next year, The Cartoon Introduction to Economics. I’m looking forward to reading it.
